Oregon Coast Community College
Attaining a college education can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a person’s life. There are several colleges and universities located on every state and city, but it can be difficult to enter a school when a person has limited resources such as time and finances. Thankfully, there are also several smaller community colleges that can help people overcome limitations while at the same time, providing them with quality education. Among the best of these schools includes the Oregon Coast Community College in Oregon.
Oregon Coast Community College, also known as OCCC, is a community college located in Oregon. The school serves the residents of Lincoln County, and the school is located in Newport. The school receives a little more than 3,000 students and a faculty of almost 50 instructors. OCCC is one of 17 Community Colleges that are found in Oregon. It is the second youngest college, and the second smallest school in terms of students.
OCCC opened its doors in 1987. The school held classes in whatever space their staff could find for their classes. This included high schools, church basements, fire stations, real estate offices and even warehouses. Then in 2004, locals voted to approve a $23.5 million tax. The tax was going to be used for the building of three structures between Waldport and Lincoln. According to Oregon Coast Community College, three buildings were needed because of the size of Lincoln County and dangerous driving weather during the winter season in Oregon.
Oregon Coast Community College is also known for offering the Aquarium Science degree program. OCCC is the only college in the country that offers this class. The program is made of two paths, the first one leads to an associate's degree and the next one to attain a 1 year certification. The course is also available for students with a bachelor's degree or higher in related sciences. Due to the limited slots, all applicants have to apply ahead of time and they are interviewed by various affiliated marie biologists and aquarists. Classes offered in the program can range from a Scuba diving Course to Marine Biology and Aquatic Animal Management. For students that are on either their Associate degree or their one-year certification, they may end up with an internship at a public zoo, aquarium, or marine laboratory.
Choosing the right college is a very important decision and every person has to take seriously. Each person has to take their time and make sure that they have made the right choice. There are a lot of options available in each state and location, and each person can take their time in making sure of their choice. In the end, each student will benefit from their decision for the rest of their lives. Choosing Oregon Coast Community College can only help a student improve their life and open up new opportunities.
